If you belong to a non-English speaking country and if you are willing to study or work in the USA,the United Kingdom or European countries, Australia or Canada you need to appear an English language proficiency test : International English Language Testing System (IELTS). If you secure the required score in the Test, you will be allowed to study or work in the country of your choice.
IELTS is owned by three reputable, international organizations: University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), British Council and IDP Education Australia: IELTS Australia. IELTS is of two types. They are Academic and General Training. Except writing module all of the modules are more or less same for Academic and General. There are two versions of the writing test. The Academic Training is aimed at candidates intending to go abroad to study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level or work at degree level. The Academic writing module is therefore used to assess whether the candidate is able to write in a way acceptable to academic institutions such as universities. The General Training writing module is aimed at the more basic survival requirements of candidates who want to emigrate, work abroad or study abroad but not at degree level.
